Dar Es Salaam Maritime Institute has over 2000 students and is the leading Maritime Training Institution in Tanzania as well as amongst East Africa Nations. The DMI was established by Tanzanian Government on 3rd July 1978. This was at a time when the STCW78 Convention was promulgated an International legal instrument requiring formal training for seafarers which Tanzania aimed to comply with. Since then the DMI mission is to develop marine expertise and produce competently trained and qualified marine personnel within the Eastern African Region and the world at large.
