Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI)
Institution | The Government established the DMI on 3rd July 1978. This was at a time when the STCW78 Convention was promulgated an International legal instrument requiring formal training for seafarers which Tanzania aimed to comply with. In 1992 the Institute was formally established by an Act of Parliament, the DMI Act No. 22 of 1991

The institute is about to undergo the construction of the new DAR ES SALAAM MARITIME INSTITUTE in cooperation with DaLIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY DMU China. The Construction is to start in August 2011, Location at Sokoine Drive.

Are they going to demolish the existing buildings hosting the institute adjacent Sea express terminal shown above?

YES! The Tacoshili building next to the institute will be demolished. This project will start this year.They want to start construction as soon as possible because the govt wanted to take the plot...as a matter of fact they tried.

1.PSPF Twin Towers 35+35 storeys
2.Ports Tower 35 storey
3.Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation 20+15 storeys
4.DSM Maritime Institute Tower 12 storey
as fsr as this area is already busy...first was Maktaba area and then Ohio road and now Sokoine Drive(water front). But the city we look mmmmwwaaaaaa....beeeaatiful and economically Wao!
